I like cats more at the moment but I did have a real chill retriever few years ago and I was more of a dog person then. My pets are normally really relaxed. Not as big a fan of really energetic ones. My cat likes to sit on my lap and watch Netflix with me so I'm a cat person right now.

I love both, Cats have always been very chill and cuddly or very playful; at-least the ones i had, infact my best cat was Catbone; This cat Was extremely smart and very tough, She would literally come homes with birds and other small rodents with her and most dogs couldn't beat her, She had a certain condition that made her extremely fertile and often dished out litters of 8-10 kittens, She kept me to the knees in cuteness and i felt more safe around her than the dogs i had at the time.
Although it would be unfair for me to not mention my Dog's within my life; there was three that really Dogs that i recall from my childhood, My Father trained dogs when i was younger and i guess you can say "He Raised Dogs to help Raise me" as much of 'Bullshit' as it sounds; i tell you that it's true. The first one was actually trained to be a more so maid to me in a sense; It potty trained me; Meaning it would drag me to the bathroom and growl at me until i sat on the toilet, ofcourse my father taught me to do so first and it would watch over me if i went anywhere -- The dog was later given to a Police Officer after we moved; due to his ability to sniff things out extremely well. The Second dogs was a Guard Dog: When i was about 5-10ish we had a dog that was extremely protective of me and would obey my fathers command's in terms of a select few of words; Words such as "Close" "Far" "Don't" "Go" "Follow" "Him" "Her" "Safe" "Protect" "Bring back" "Find" are what i recall my father using when he ordered a command in regards of watching over me, often the Dog would drag me back to the house if i strayed far from the house and regardless what i did; he would always be there on my little adventures and would often drag me back by clothing or anything he could cling to; i was a small child so i wasn't that hard for him but i often could over power him if he wasnt barely trying but when he tried; well... god save me. There was this one time where i walked off with my Stick-Sword in my hand and playing; i walked abit from my house and came to a road to which led to the old Graveyard; i was playing lord of the Rings or Something; since that was when the first movie came out, While on my little walk; i came across a rather scrawny mutt and was rather aggressive and growled at me; i was rather fear-full of it but i suppose my faithfull boss heard it and came running extremely fast; i remember hearing the brush and crackle of leaves, sticks and etc. in the the bush beside me and then he jumped out behind me and rushed past heading towards my aggressor; i recall him tackling the Dog first and it trying to scurry away from him, it then latched his teeth around the other dogs throat -- but even so... the Dog still managed to slip away and take off running; although i assumed it was badly hurt or died because there was a trail of blood and quite abit of blood on my dog's mouth. anyway that was the most intense moment i ever had with dogs really. The third dog was a hunting dog and was really playful; it took down a white-tail buck for my Uncle and father when they were out on a hunt, Unfortunately a few years later i watched him be put down due to him suffering and us having lack of funds to get him treated.
Dogs i noticed are just more... Loyal and outgoing animals, cats are much more reserved and intuitive i think, it's like Dogs perpetuate everything as territorial and potentially untrustworthy, Cats(Atleast mine was) we're much more reserved and attentive to things around them, my cat never really did anything protective unless something proved to be an immediate threat that was nearby. although cats are much more crafty, mine use to find the most weirdest ways back inside the house; after we kicked her outside for certain intervals.
But i love both; but i just have more memories with dogs and... well i love em.

It's both and it depends on the breed and personality of them.
Like, i'm afraid of dogs most of the time, but if they are hella friendly or just totally chill - i'm cool with them
Cats also kind of scare me, because I hate being scratched and every female cat I encounter is such an asshole lmfao
I currently have a tiny lil' dog who is such a cutey and a dumbass, but God I love that thing xD
And then I have a cat who rarely loves up on me, and his front paws are declawed so...I have no problems with him
(plus i totally force my hugs and kisses on him and he just takes it with the expression of "i want to end my own life, i hate this human" >3<
