Minor and Adult Dating

Okay, there's a HUGE debate going on my Twitter feed about an 18 year old Minecraft YouTuber dating a 14 year old girl. Is this acceptable or unacceptable? https://mobile.twitter.com/KEEMSTARx/status/643558815410094080

Honestly, it depends entirely on the situation. Buuut in this case it seems he is dating a girl that was a fan of his, so it's hard not to think he's most-likely exploiting his fame.

I agree that from a purely moral standpoint that it depends on the situation. Its only a 4yr difference and girls usually mature faster than boys. But from a practically standpoint, its a very bad idea. He could easily get charges leveled against him and be forced to register as a sex offender which would destroy his reputation regardless of the details because people would always assume the worst.

In that case I morally am not completely opposed. However, there's a bigger difference in thoughand naivety between those 4 years than you may be aware of. In other words, it's not a simple "Yes it's ok."or " No its not." answer.

You guys do have a good point of view but even though it's a 4 year difference, he may be arrested for it because of the Romeo and Juliet law. The law states that the minor have to be within 3 years apart from the Adult partner's age and be over 14 years old. But to be honest the Romeo and Juliet law confuses me a little.

In terms of legality, it really depends on what that state has as it's Romeo and Juliet law. Some states say 3 years difference, some 4. Age of consent, and also this only covers issues of sexual relations. Nothing in there about dating. So if you were trying to charge someone, you'd have to actually prove that they did have sexual relations together. Relationship-wise, it's hard to say because everyone has different experiences that shape who they are and how they react in situations. So I don't know if I could pass judgement on their relationship. I will say though, that 4 years is really big in terms of personal growth.

True. The two couples that I mentioned in the description are online dating but they haven't told their parents which makes me a little concern. If it's a long distance thing, I don't see problems with it. I think emotional bonds can be formed through distance. Its if she or he asks for a visitation I would have problems with it. Hell if I was a parent and both kids were 17 and wanted to stay in the same room or alone I would have a problem with it. Buuuuut thankfully, not my circus, not my monkey. I don't intend on having kids anytime soon. So it doesn't effect me until someone ends up pregnant and living off the government an tax payers monies.

I mean technically she is still a kid and the guy is practically an adult lets say she was 15-17 maybe but thats 4 years apart i mean yeah age is only a number but there are reasons behind laws that say this kind of stuff is illegal. As kids we do dumb stuff no one in the world can say they havent done something dumb as a kid. She isnt mature enough to make decisions like that on her own thats why her parents should be involved cause i mean look at it like this if any 14 year old could date whoever they wanted regardless of age then lets say the person takes advantage of them...thats one dumb decision they made that will probably haunt them for the rest of their life and your only 14 you are 4 years away from being a 10 year old
