A good friend of mine that I've known for over 7 years has Asperger's Syndrome, though it's not easy to tell from our conversation at all, as he's mostly learned all necessary social skills that people with autism tend to lack, though he's told me many stories about his past where he had all these meltdowns and severe depression, especially in school. Therefore I can easily understand where you're coming from and I have no problems getting along with autistic people. :)

Never thought of it as a learning disability. I was just taught and thought that autism had an effect to easily bring common mental disorders with it. My little half-brother has it, and I love him to death. Whatever he's even slightly interested in, his brain seems to go into overdrive for, making him learn every little detail on the subject which I really wish I had (you know, without the negative side-effects that it can possibly bring). My sister was diagnosed with it as well, but of course, she's an amazing artist that sells her work and is making it pretty well. Doctor labeled her as a "high fuctioning autistic". ...wait, what was this thread for? lol

This thread is due to a specific person tossing the word around as an insult.

^No, it's just I want to show a positive feel for people with autism in MO. To tell them that their is nothing wrong about having a disability. I see people having a physical disabilities and they can do the impossible. So, autistic people can as well. I support this a lot. ^u^
