It's a red silk string and it's a Chinese folklore thing. What is a soul mate and how is it defined? Is finding a soul mate a universal and is how you determine a soul mate, universal? If any of those are defined by no, I don't know or personal opinion, it's not exactly as you say. One can have many loves if one so wishes. I will have a life mate since I want one and am actively pursuing. I don't know that I believe in fate, as fate can not be proven. I do however believe that we can make of life as we wish. In other words, if you wanted her to be your soul mate, she was and you lost your only chance at true happiness. I however, know that I will love again and not be so stuck on the whole concept of "the one". It's a bit antiquated, even if it's meant to be romantic. Mind you, once I marry, I do intend on a lifetime

i belevie soul mates only appear if you are in true pain and loneliness and you are at the point of wishing for someone to life you out the dark. i have had that some and know i most grow from this pian and become even stronger and perhaps love again she wont be my soul mate but its better the suffing in the darkness of this world .
