Normally I would agree with you, however their influence was rather limited. The main issue is that most of the hippie movement performed acts in the majority that were in direct opposition to these teachings. Namely in the form of the use of drugs that was highly discouraged by nearly all of these leaders. What can be argued is that the beatniks were more in line with these concepts rather than the hippies. The hippies would use the movement in order to justify their actions. Their mentality is similar to the woke jackass we see today. Latch on to some sort of niche movement and use it to justify horrible actions. The only good thing to come from them was giving Yuri Bezmenov a window to escape when a group came through the hippie trail and let Yuri come along.
Speaking of Yuri Bezmenov, it was actually his job to sort of guide Westerners to fringe Indian cults as well as promote them within India itself in order to destabilize the culture. The scariest part of this, is that it worked.
