Dating Websites

@Stand Haha, sounds about right. @Kane Anrui I signed up for Geek2Geek awhile back. There were very few people that were actually close to me. Everything got very stagnant very quickly. OF course, I never paid for a membership but I didn't think I would get anywhere with it so I didn't want to waste the money. Plus, it seemed very spammy and I think my info went to too many market research companies. Anyway, that's my thoughts on that website.

The problem with sites like okcupid and pof is just the flat out fact most people on there don't want to date otaku, gamers, members of the geek set, etc. Especially if youre a guy, your competing with two or three other guys for every one girl, and that's assuming she's someone you feel you could even be compatible with let alone already having kid(s), etc.. Girls have the advantage of being selective since there are so many guys to pick from, hence why a lot of guys don't get much of a response on those sites unless you're majorly attractive . Even on here if you check out the newest users who sign up, I see far more guys than girls sign up and a lot of them usually don't stick around for more than a few weeks once they realize how spread out everyone is and most users close by to them haven't logged in in months. Very few I've noticed ever post in the forums.

Match.com blows. I tried it tonight and came up with absolutely nothing in regards to anime fans or even general nerds. I closed the account after I got fed up.

Cecil, for what it's worth you're right. I would like to see this site work for someone, even if it's not me. Even if I'm not the most attractive guy, I have dated cute girls, mainly when I was 17-23. I've been single for so long now, it's baffling. Yes looks are important but everyone is hypocritical, they don't want to settle for someone yet they think they're too good for most of the people that message them.

I've tried a couple different dating sites. I did get a couple dates but nothing ever panned out. For the cost of some it wasn't even worth it cause most of the profiles weren't even active.

Normal dating sites probably work better if you live in a populated urban area. I live in an area where most people think computers are the devil. @Emily I think my profile is still on there. It didn't find me? I think I was TheArtistMike or something like that. I know Lancaster and Philly aren't "close" but they aren't that far either. I'm pretty sure I got matches from further away than that. Of course, I haven't been on there in probably a year, haha. But you're right. It blows.

I live in a pretty big urban area and I've had next to zero luck finding other anime or cosplay fans on the other major dating sites. The match and text search results are so discouraging even when removing all distance filtering that I pretty much gave up. There doesn't really seem to be any point to trying to go on dates with random people for whom anime isn't even important enough to them to *mention* in their profile, you know?

Well, I still think the mainstream dating sites are garbage, but I think that most people will tend to lie or omit hobbies that tend to cause social stigma. I've never said in a profile that I liked Anime. The most I ever said was that I was a bit nerdy. I never went into specifics with it. Of course, similar hobbies aren't as important to me in a partner as the core of their personality. However, given the nature of mainstream dating sites, I realized that I wasn't going to actually find any quality people anyway. Point being, just because they didn't mention Anime doesn't mean they weren't a fan. If that is of any consolation.
