Cosplayers Arrested for Carrying Toy Guns at Animonvention - Haruhichane C

I guess maybe this might be old news to some, yet what are your thoughts on this? Over the weekend of January 23rd – 25th, two 18 year old cosplayers were arrested outside the anime convention known as G-Anime that takes place in Gatineau, in the Quebec province of Canada. The cosplayers were reported to have been armed with rifles, however as it turned out, they were, of course, only toy guns. The pair were arrested and fined $270 (Canadian dollars) but fortunately not charged for any crimes. Now that’s a hefty chunk out of their convention budget! The two were spotted by government workers after getting out of their car that was parked next to the Palais de Congrés building (one of the major convention centres) and calls to the police were made who then arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to make the arrest. Videos showing the arrest can be found below. https://youtu.be/riXjYAZXe9M https://youtu.be/gQLhgcKbnnI I kind of think it is a stupid arrest. They were only Cosplaying. I see toy weapons being sold at conventions all the time.

That's bullshit. They save up all year for an epic weekend only to have it shat upon by a BS misunderstanding? And on top of that, they had to pay a nearly $300 (canadian) fine? No no no no no. Fuck. That.

Me and my brother was detained by police in Detroit for cosplaying as the Umbrella Corp, during Youmacon. They took our guns and patches.

Did the toy guns have orange tips? You do know that you have to keep those on? If they didn't have an orange tip, I can fully understand, but you can't tell in the video. Take out a toy gun without an orange tip while a cop is around and see if you don't get shot. It's not normal to carry around toy guns in public (I'm sure they werent putting the convention inyo consideration )they were just being cautious before they knew they were toys. Before we bash the police for doing their job, it's always godo to actually figure out why and what happened.

I love the police (arguing with them that is). Most of them adhere to the laws too strictly, pouncing on the weak and defenseless. I hate the whole concept of this hierarchy.

@anigamer1999 Agreed. They're job is to protect and serve. Not to harass and douche

Again? What were the circumstances? Just randomly walking, orange tip on? Playing around without anything identifying the guns as toys? I could care less if it's a convention. I suppose ya'll would be blaming the police if the place got shot up too? I understand not liking corrupt authority, but all I'm seeing so far here is "Stupid police".

I just have a grudge against police as a police officer detained me for hours just because I was in the same area as some people who had been prank calling police via a public phone box.

I don't like police because the ones i've met no matter where I go ar racist.
