Subs or Dubs

Well, I have paid my dues. The first Animes I watched had neither. We deduced the story line from just watching. Subs were a big leap forward. I find however that I gravitate to Dubs these days. The only beef I have is with those folks that get snobby about Subs. I have no use for that. Let folks enjoy Anime the way they see fit.

@Ridingcatbus, I feel the same. I know there are some horrible dubs out there, but honestly it's better than the days when you got neither. I hate when people try and tell me what I should and shouldn't enjoy just because they feel that way.

I personally like to watch it subbed because I find it funny how they talk and usually anime that comes out starts off in Japanese.

In the past I would have said Sub hands down, but recently some american voice actors are starting to have years of experience and becoming really good at it, now its Sub mainly but Dub if I want to lay down and watch as I relax and not having to worry about reading xD!

Dubs vs. Subs... the battle rages on. Me personally, I feel that the quality of each depends on who and how the material is handled. I've read some horrible translations and heard some good voiceovers and vice versa. Besides, most anime are bilingual nowadays, so I can pick which one I like (something I couldn't do back in the days of video cassettes)

certain series like gots, cowboy bebop or studio ghibli films work better dubbed. The themes are heavily western-based and so the language is appropriate (even if it is set in Japan) and helps with the universal feel of what it's doing. Generally speaking though it is subs, there are certain things, voices, ways of speaking etc which are not applicable to english without sounding very disturbing or false. It's a cultural thing. Apart from certain exceptions (like for example Jakie Chan's dubbed 90's films or previously mentioned anime) I watch french films/cartoons in french, english films/cartoons in english and japanese films/cartoons in japanese.

both but theres some series I refuse to watch subbed like Yu Yu Hakusho, cowboy bebop, Trigun, all i can think of at top of my head atm, but they are just to good to watch subbed.

Both! When the dubbing group is a good company or I specifically like a voice actor, I'll watch it in English. Though a lot of shows still haven't been dubbed, or have been badly done so then it's Japanese. ^^ I like them both equally in the end.

Everyone here pretty much hit the nail on the head. Some anime just works dubbed and some just plain out doesn't, and some works with both. It seems to me, usually, that the anime that works in English the best is the anime that isn't loud and obnoxious with dramatic fake characters. It's embarrassing to hear them speaking in English, but in subbed it sounds fine. Something Like Cowboy Bebop works great in English, but, in my opinion, something like Gurren Lagann should have NEVER had an English cast...ever...lol They ruin it completely. Can't have a guy screaming corny things like that in English.
