A while back, there was this girl that I liked, but I never asked her out in fear of getting rejected.

Most times that I've asked someone out, I was at least 80% sure they would say yes : x I usually had to build up a personal relationship with them first and occasionally try to flirt a little to see their reaction. If it didn't seem like it would work out, I'd either work on the personal relationship thing or I'd move on while just having the mindset of just being friends.
I had a really big fear of rejection too when I was younger : [ The first time I asked someone out was in a MySpace message. I was so nervous that I had butterflies until she finally replied x (
I was rejected a few years ago when I went to visit a friend that I liked, who I met in an mmo awhile back. I completely misread her personality. I thought she had a thing for me too just because of the way she acted when talking to me, but it turns out that I was wrong. So it ended up being an awkward visit in the end. Very fun and interesting though. I got to explore an unfamiliar town while she was at work, and I really enjoyed the hotel I stayed in.

Once me and this girl were getting on really well. So well in fact that any outsider would have most likely thought we were a couple. Anyway, one night I actually had the courage to go in for a kiss at the end of one of our night out together to get the response "what are you doing". I was embarrassed and heart broken, but luckily my train home was due so the awkwardness didn't last long. We are actually still friends to this day haha.

I've gotten better at picking my battles over the years and can usually feel someone out to the point if it's worth my time asking or not. I still couldn't ask a girl in front of others though. Too damn personal so I usually make an effort to pull the person aside or wait for a more one on one opportunity.

Rejection is not a failure just the people who look down on you. Trials and errors make you get a stronger bond and knowing your mistake. Never try, never know the result but trying is what we success in life.

From the rejected's point of view, maybe they're looking down on you OR they're just not into you. After all, rejecting someone doesn't automatically make you a bad guy/girl, does it?

@key, based on my experience, I can tell many people try to reject someone are usually see them as stranger or freak.
For those getting rejected, usually they got bf/gf or not living up to their standard.
Without trying, gain nothing and what else to lose.

Unless you yourself have done the rejecting and felt that way then, I don't see your point.
Many people? That's pretty vague. And I can't agree with you. When someone ask you out, you have the right to say 'no' tales of if that person's your best friend, your sister or a total stranger.
Now, It's true that some bigheads think they're above everyone else, but you can't just go and label everyone as such
