Owning a car or not?

I sold my car to move to the state I live in now. Slowly but surely saving up though. I don't like the idea of a car being a criteria for dating, it feels wrong to me.

Personally: Need a car for work and school. Probably could not date a girl without a car in the area I am at, but city life is obviously different

Owning a car shows a little bit of responsibility and self reliance. I mean, would it be fair to rely on her and make her solely responsible for transportation? What would you do if you need to travel? What if you wanted to surprise her? What if there was a medical or family emergency ? The list goes on. I mean , you'd rather use her? Kind of hypocritical...

It sounded like she a gold digger since she expect her man to own a car or want to satisfy her happiness with materialistic. Owning a car is good for traveling. Owning a car need to pay insurance, cleaning, refilling gas, parking and sometimes might receive a parking ticket. You also had to pay for crossing the bridge if you don't know it which consider wasting money, time and accident can be happen too.

It's not the be all and end all, you don't expect to be picked up and dropped off. You meet each other halfway. Where I live we don't NEED to drive because everything, hospitals, shopping etc is all walking distance. But if your in a place where you NEED to, it'd make it difficult if you can't. It doesn't mean you shouldn't date someone just because they don't, I think it's a little materialistic personally to think like that.
