Oculus Rift Progress

metaljester
So since I have seen some people here interested in Oculus rift I am placing another thread here. I personally have been watching it since it started along with other companies who were making virtual reality tech. Such as the omni virtuix and all kinds of other movement devices.

I was just talking about this ^^ I am stoked with the progress. I can only dream that I live that long, and experience a SAO moment.

Well I for one want to put research into this if I ever get funds I am a bit of a technophile putting it lightly its one of my obsessions. I would utilize the programming knowledge I have coupled with other things I learned to benefit the pursuit of virtual reality. I dont imagine SAO happening anytime soon but I could guess that it will eventually reach that point the tech behind it isnt completely far fetched as it sounds. Just need more time to research it. As for any scenario like the holodeck well thats off the table broke way to many logical areas.

Well it's not as if we haven't made some improvements. Usually when something new comes out, someone makes a smaller, easier, and simple new edition. And then it continues until we have the perfect product. Computers are a perfect example. So, I think we are closer to virtual reality than others realize.

8 more years....

Yeah? You think so? ^^

I would give it 7- 15 years. Thats my rounded estimate. The nerve gear is all about neural networks and sending those signals to create the virtual reality around you. This technology in that area is not really focused on in virtual reality. I am guessing if somebody does pursue this it will take quite a bit of funds and at least in my view 5 years or more to develop a truly good prototype that can be then perfected and utilized on a consumer scale. Computers though are just one means of tech not all tech evolves the same way. It really depends. I am not saying we are hundreds of years though.

Hmmm. I think human trails will be the failing point should they get that far.

As long as technology doesn't suddenly stop advancing in the near future there will always be a chance.

I do agree with you on that in terms of using the neural network to create virtual reality around you that with a few other things would be the wall in the way so to speak but we cant really have nerve gear without it. Regardless of what some people would say can be jumped over there is no means of logical and factual solution at this time that would be effective however do keep note that this happens with a decent amount of technology this would not be the first and those that did have walls people still lept over. It just depends on how well motivated people are to put effort into researching virtual reality.
