"I'm not from OKC. i simply used it as a reference. match.com, pof, eharmony, etc... You took that comment and ran with it. "
I apologize, it seemed like you were.
"It's how I feel and I felt as if enough is enough."
And so did a bunch of other guys who came and go.
"like you, that point out the obvious as if it's not there to see."
Hey, that's funny, you're the one who came in here all surprised--
"I seriously didn't think this many people would have such low self esteem."
Right.
"And again, if this is what it means to be otaku, if having tons of pity parties with other people, begging for attention from strangers then retreating to your anime/manga/video game is what it means to be Otaku, I'm not one."
You do know there are two extreme sects of anime fandom that could never unite: otaku and fujoshi. Both have outlandish standards for mates, the opposite of each sect being the total opposite of their respective standards.
"When I think of otaku, I think of people who honestly don't care about what others think because they DRESS AS ANIME CHARACTERS. If you have the balls to go out in public and dress like Goku, Luffy, Naruto, Ichigo or any other character, I don't get how you can really have low self esteem. I honestly don't get it.
"
Those are cosplayers. And cosplayers, like myself, tend to have really bloated egos because we get our photos taken a lot. We get requests for private photo shoots. People nerdgasm at our craftwork. People want to sleep with us. etc. mmm yesssss.
And it's not really in public, it's at a sanctioned convention venue. Go crossdress as a Touhou in a mall and now you're talking balls of steel.
I don't know about you man, but "otaku" is hardly an honorary term to describe yourself, lol.
I'll just tell you straight up you're not one. You like anime. You like cosplay, and maybe want your very own qt 3.14 cosplay waifu. But that doesn't make you an otaku. And you shouldn't feel bad cause being an otaku is not something you'd want on your CV anyway.

Oh, you're damn right I'm not otaku. But then again, I never really knew what one was in the first place. I thought being Otaku wasn't necessarily a bad thing but a misunderstood thing. Glad I got that cleared up and out the way.
Yes, I was very surprised when I came here and saw what I saw. I guess, I'm more disappointed because of the hype and attention it was getting from Otakon, i was expecting more. Yeah, that's on me and no one else, but jeez... there's a limit to one's patience.
Also, I've gone out dressed as Zaraki Kenpachi just because it was a wednesday and the weather was nice. I go to anime meetups from time to time and they're plenty ballsy. More than me, I must say.

I honestly only heard this site from facebook (I think). How was it perceived/presented at Otakon? I'm surprised it's actively advertised because I've never heard of it from all the cons I've been to.
As for those anime meetups...sometimes it's not balls, but just huge lack of self-consciousness, lol.
But all in all the same effect: show you love anime and give no fucks, because fuck people anyway, they have shit taste.
Also, I'd like to clarify that being an otaku (to me) doesn't necessarily exclusively mean a self-pitying, socially crippled anime fan. It just means someone who overindulges in anime; and naturally, people who do this have a massive lack of confidence, given the nature of the medium. But an otaku can have confidence. Just on the aggregate, they don't. I mean go check out Yuichiro Nagashima; he's a kickboxing otaku with a solid record and he has grand crossdressing entrances into the ring, lol.
So, you may actually be an otaku. Just depends how deep you are in the hobby.
I wouldn't call someone who only watches the big shounen shows otaku.
But if it's someone who spends a lot of their disposable income on anime, I'd say that's otaku.
Though I don't really ponder about it much.

Otakon hand you a bag of stuff when you pick up your ticket(s). Schedule, details of events, etc..., in the bag was a sheet about this site. So I'm pretty sure everyone at otakon was at least handed or aware of it. if they paid it any mind is another

Huh, that's surprising. You'd think a major con like Otakon handing these out would spur activity.

EXACTLY MY POINT. See why I'm disappointed? Maybe I have too high of standards?

Maybe people are either already content or they're in a self-denying phase and think they deserve better than having to resort to a dating site (while being ratty themselves and doing nothing about it).
Or, dear god... they don't even have the guts to go on a dating site (for anime fans, nevertheless). Man that's not even beta anymore--that's omega.
Well either way I'm staying here and seeing where it goes. It's not a typical anime forum where everyone has avatars of characters and there's zero connotation of an offline existence/connection.

I really have no expectations for this site now, I moved from a normal dating site here because I was like hey, maybe unicorn. But no I realize this site is where people go when they're to afraid to even have a real dating profile.
Plus like a total of 4 girls in my state here and none of them are really "active"
Its not that I'm against long distance. But I'm not going to go out of my way for it when I csn at least manage normal dates and such on my own. I guess I was just hopeful.
But yeah. I met some cool people here.

Haha, this post is hilarious. I read the entire thing and you guys went off on a bunch of tangents. From the message of the original post and as the first female responder, yes, it can be really annoying to see all the "Am I ugly?", "Would an otaku girl date me?", etc posts. This site was made with the intent of being a dating website, people shouldn't go showing only their negative aspects. You have to fake it till you make it, as they say. Not everyone has confidence, but you sure as hell don't have to go shouting your low esteem to the world. If you act like you have confidence, you will eventually gain confidence.
And also, you guys shouldn't have such low hopes about this website. I met my boyfriend on here, we are still "going strong" lol Yes, it is long distance. I live in Wisconsin, he lives in Maryland, but he has come here to visit and I've gone there. He is coming again for Christmas. Anyways, I'm going to school in Maryland so its not going to be long distance forever and we knew that from the beginning. Skype has done amazing things for making LDR feasible, but you have to know going into LDR that it can't remain long distance forever. If you aren't into long distance relationships, this website might not be as affective for you unless you live in the "hot zones", aka Maryland, Virgina, Pennsylvania, California, etc. The states that have the most active members. I feel like we should try to get this site advertised at more Cons around the US.
Anyways, feel free to have at my post if you want.

I found this site at a com lol. Back of the program at otakon. I mean I'll continue to be active forums and see who I see. But the search options and interface are worthless lol. Om happy to hear it does wprk and I don't mean to soubd pessimistic but I mean I'.m a pretty good guy doi g pretty well in the worlds terms and fighting half recluse on a site where everyone should be open and progressive makes finding that one that much harder
