The story centers around three characters - Uesugi Kazuya, his twin older brother Tatsuya, and Asakura Minami. Kazuya is the darling of his town as he’s talented, hardworking, and the ace pitcher for his middle school baseball team.

Due to an untimely death of one of its members, a once happy and playful group of friends drifted and grew apart. Living their lives separately from each other, they secretly blame themselves for the horrible accident, and never got to move on even after years had passed.

Parasyte centers on a 17-year-old teen named Shinichi Izumi, who lives with his mother and father in a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo. One night, worm-like creatures called Parasites appear on Earth, taking over the brains of human hosts by entering through their ears or noses.

Haruyuki "Haru" Arita is a short, overweight boy who is constantly bullied at the Umesato Junior High School which results in him having exceptionally low self-esteem. To escape the torment of real life, he logs onto the school's Local Network where he always plays squash by himself, and his innate skills bring him the attention of Kuroyukihime, the school's popular and attractive female Student Council Vice-President.

A young boy gets saved from drowning by a mermaid but, according to mermaid law, if a human sees a mermaid's true form, both have to be killed. The only solution to the problem is for him to marry her.

Tanaka Yukio, better known by his nickname Koyuki is a 14-year-old who feels disconnected from life itself. Through the act of saving a mismatched dog, he meets guitarist Minami Ryuusuke and becomes involved in Ryuusuke's new band BECK.
