Because of a shift in tectonic plates around 100 years ago, much of Japan’s land area was submerged underwater.

To retain Japan’s hold on its territory, Coastal Cities sprang up one after another. They eventually became Marine Cities, and along with the expansion of sealanes to connect them, the need to protect their waters arose.

At the same time, maritime jobs became more popular among women. Hence, the BLUE MERMAIDS, tasked with keeping the seas safe, had become every female student’s dream job.

This is when childhood friends Akeno Misaki and Moeka China enrol in a marine high school in Yokosuka, along with other girls who share their goal of becoming a BLUE MERMAID.

Akeno becomes the captain of the Kagero-class training ship Harekaze, while Moeka becomes the captain of the Yamato-class super training ship Musashi. The story unfolds as they depart for their first maritime exercise.
