I much prefer texting. Then again, I do it from computer via google voice.
The reason is I can do it at my discretion, and don't need to stay on the line for 10 minutes with half of it filled with blah blah blah or silence. Plus I can have a bad memory at times, so it means all my conversations are written in text and searchable later.
However I don't think your issue is texting. I think it's her neediness.
