Xmen has one of the best alien waifus. Lilandra Neramani. She is the Empress of the Shi'ar empire. A space faring civilization. Her hair is actually feathers because the Shi'ar evolved from birds. Professor Charles Xavier and Lilandra fall in love. She takes him to her empire at the end of the series since he is sick. In some spin off comics they have a daughter. The Phantom 2040 was very deep. The Phantom questioned his right to be a vigilante and that he might be contributing to problems in the city. Also the show went into subject like mass extinction. So I can't really agree that modern shows automatically have a better story.
