I hear you on the "Excessive Gore" bit. Shows don't need to have fountains of blood to be terrifying, if they do the story right. A key example of this being "Umineko no Naku Koro Ni". Great suspense, mystery, and elements of horror. But not that gory, save for maybe one scene, and even then it's pretty mild.

You saw "Daughter of Twenty Faces", AND several other anime I like. We….should be friends!! :D
