zombies are only half the problem. Dealing with other humans... Now that is where the story gets dark. As for putting down a zombie, a crossbow is very handy. Take them out from far and with little sound. Avoid large group(zombies and your group). In games you act like a bada$$ but you'll be a happy meal for them. (I love zombie talk! :D)
