Let's see if I can put something here without giving into my tendency to ramble like an old person who was just asked about what things were like "back in the day", shall we?
I've in some way been an anime fan my whole life -- my first fandom, at age 5, was Pokemon, starting the day I saw the first episode of the anime on its original air date. Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Hamtaro followed during my childhood, with series like Soul Eater and Excel Saga were what I thrived on in high school, courtesy of the anime club led by friends of mine.
Since starting college, I've actually had the chance to watch virtually no anime, and I'm not really involved with many current fandoms as a result, which kind of depresses me... If I had more fans of the genre out here, it would be better, but while I have no shortage of geeky friends, few of them are of this most beautiful subspecies. *sniff*
Anywho, my main attachment to anime and manga, presently, is my strong connection to video game franchises utilizing that type of artistic style -- Pokemon, the Legend of Zelda (my fav), Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, etc. etc., both new and old games.
There is an anime and manga club at my uni, but it is designed for watching the anime, with very little potential for socialization with the other members unless you know them in advance, if you're as shy around strangers as I am, anyway. So more like-minded friends with overlapping interests would be wonderful, as would--though at this point I don't dare to even hope on this point--a mate.
Also, you yaoi fangirls out there, you've ruined me XD I was surrounded by female fans of the genre for years before coming out, and by probable coincidence, I've turned out to be very much a femme... I think some of my ladies like me so much because I'm about as close as they'll find to some of the trappish ukes they like so much in real life, hee!
Anywho, enough babble, I'll be silent now... Feel free to say hello; I'm afraid I'm very shy about initiating conversation, on- or offline, so I probably won't do so myself, sorry...
